Jim Marshall CEO
In a Nutshell
Jim brings more than 40 years of enterprise-focused experience, leading high technology companies to profitability and market growth. He has extensive C-suite experience in software, services, and hardware areas.
He was CEO of Promethean, PLC and led the company out of the recession into growth mode, as he created a new vision and direction for the company. Center to this was a new platform for the teacher to plan, prepare and deliver lessons real time. This new platform went from rapid design and build to viral adoption by millions of teachers, all in less than 36 months. Promethean was acquired in November of 2015 by Net Dragon Websoft, a leading software gaming and app store company.
Jim was also CEO at Spectrum K12 Schools Solutions, a provider of leading edge personalization software for schools, assisting school districts in improving performance for at risk and special education students. The company was acquired by Scantron/Harland Clark Holdings in mid 2010. He joined Promethean in April of 2011 from Harland Clark, where he had served as President of the SpectrumK12 business unit.
Before SpectrumK12, he was CEO at Agentis Software, working in the artificial intelligence space. At Agentis, he led funding rounds, a management buyout, multiple large new sales transactions and took the company to sustained profitability and a high return of capital multiple.
Prior to that assignment, Jim was Vice President of Apple’s US Education Division, leading the overall Education effort at Apple and moved the Division to craft and begin the 1:1 laptop initiative. This Division at Apple accounted for approximately 25% of the company’s annual revenues.
Jim has also held executive positions at Informix, Oracle Corporation, NeoMedia Technologies, Tandem Computers and Unisys/Burroughs. He has extensive experience in helping technology companies build and develop accomplished management, sales, marketing, professional services and channels teams.
Jim holds a BA in Management and General Sciences from the University of South Florida.
Honors and Service
A past member for over 15 years of the Cobb County Education Foundation, where he worked to help raise funds and drive awareness programs for the county’s school system. Jim was also a Director for the Florida Council on Economic Education, which was chartered with teaching fundamental finance and business concept to high school students.
During his career, Jim has been invited to give numerous keynote presentations, educational talks, speeches and seminars. Jim has received public recognition from the Governors of Michigan, Maine and Florida for his work in those states, and has been recognized by the State School System of Georgia for his contributions. He is currently engaged with the University of South Florida, College of Business as a guest lecturer.
